A Traveler's Guide to JSX: Semi-Private Flying Without the Private Jet Price Tag

Everything you need to know before booking — routes, fares, baggage, the new turboprops, Club JSX rewards, and how to pay with flexible installments.
If you've ever sat in a packed airport terminal wondering if there's a better way to fly, you're not alone — and you're exactly the kind of traveler JSX was built for.
JSX (formerly JetSuiteX) is a U.S.-based public charter air carrier that has quietly become one of the most talked-about names in domestic travel. Founded in 2016 by Alex Wilcox — a founding executive of both JetBlue and Kingfisher Airlines — JSX set out to solve a simple problem: short-haul flying in America had become slow, stressful, and unpleasant. JSX's answer was to strip away everything travelers hate about airports and replace it with something that feels closer to stepping onto a private jet.
JSX has earned the number one domestic airline ranking from Travel + Leisure two years running (2024 and 2025), along with a sixth consecutive APEX Five-Star Regional Airline award for 2026.

What Makes JSX Different From a Regular Airline?

JSX operates under FAA Part 135 charter rules rather than Part 121 (which governs major airlines like Delta, United, and American). This distinction is what allows JSX to offer an experience that feels fundamentally different from commercial flying.

Private Terminals

JSX flights depart from fixed-base operator (FBO) terminals — the same private facilities used by corporate and charter jets. There are no crowded gates, no overhead announcements blaring, and no gate-checking bags at the last minute. Most JSX terminals include a private lounge with complimentary Wi-Fi, drinks, and snacks where passengers wait before boarding.

20-Minute Check-In

Because JSX conducts its own security screening, passengers can arrive just 20 minutes before departure for domestic flights and 45 minutes for international flights. No separate TSA line. No removing shoes and laptops. You show your ID, hand over your bags, and sit down.

30-Seat Cabins

Every JSX aircraft — whether it's one of the Embraer regional jets or the newer ATR turboprops — is configured with just 30 seats. There are no middle seats. The typical layout is a 1-2 configuration (one seat on the left, two on the right), giving every passenger either a window or an aisle. Legroom is comparable to domestic first class on major carriers.

Planeside Baggage

After landing, bags are retrieved planeside within minutes — not on a distant carousel in a separate terminal. Most passengers are in their car or rideshare within five minutes of the aircraft door opening.
💡

Time Savings

Between the 20-minute check-in, no TSA lines, and planeside bag pickup, JSX can save 2+ hours of total travel time per direction compared to a commercial flight on the same route.

Where Does JSX Fly in 2026?

JSX focuses on short-haul routes — typically under 500 miles — across the United States, plus one international destination in Mexico. The airline currently serves around 29 airports across Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Nevada, New Mexico, New York, Texas, Utah, and Baja California Sur.

Key Hubs and Bases

  • Burbank (BUR) — Hollywood Burbank Airport, a major base for West Coast routes
  • Dallas (DAL) — Love Field, the company's headquarters city
  • Las Vegas (LAS) — One of the busiest JSX destinations
  • Scottsdale (SCF) — Serving the greater Phoenix area from a more convenient airport
  • Miami-Opa Locka (OPF) — The East Coast hub for Florida service

Popular Routes

  • Burbank → Las Vegas — One of JSX's original flagship routes, ideal for LA travelers skipping LAX
  • Dallas → Houston — A quick hop that saves hours compared to driving I-45
  • Westchester → Miami-Opa Locka — Connecting the New York metro area to South Florida
  • Oakland → Burbank — Bay Area to LA without the SFO or LAX chaos
  • Scottsdale → Las Vegas — A leisure traveler staple
JSX also operates seasonal routes. In summer, expect connections like Dallas to Destin. In winter, Morristown, New Jersey connects to several Florida destinations including West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, and Naples.
💡

New for 2025–2026

JSX launched service from Santa Monica Airport (SMO) in December 2025 with ATR turboprop flights to Las Vegas and Scottsdale. Summer 2026 seasonal routes are expected to include Santa Fe and Monterey.

For the most current route map and schedules, travelers should check jsx.com directly.

The New ATR Turboprops: What Travelers Should Know

In late 2025, JSX made headlines by introducing ATR 42-600 turboprop aircraft to its fleet — the first turboprops to enter mainstream U.S. passenger service in years.

Why Turboprops?

The ATR 42-600 can operate from runways roughly half the length required by JSX's Embraer jets and burns approximately half the fuel. This opens up over 1,000 additional airports that JSX could potentially serve — including mountain airports and smaller regional fields that have had little or no scheduled service.

The Passenger Experience

The ATR cabins are configured with 30 premium seats in a 1-2 layout (similar to the Embraers), with white faux-leather seats, USB-A and USB-C charging at every seat, and the same complimentary food and beverage service. The main differences: the ATRs don't yet have Starlink Wi-Fi (expected spring 2026 pending FAA certification), and the ride and sound profile are distinct from a jet — turboprops are propeller-driven.
JSX currently operates up to four ATR 42-600s and has signed a letter of intent with ATR covering potential future orders for up to 25 additional turboprops. Whether those orders materialize depends on how passengers respond during the current evaluation period.

What's Included in Your JSX Fare?

One of the biggest selling points of JSX is that the base fare includes amenities that most commercial airlines charge extra for.

Baggage

Every passenger receives two free checked bags, each up to 50 pounds (passengers on the "All In" fare get three). Specialty items like golf clubs, skis, and snowboards are also included at no additional charge. There are no overhead bins on JSX aircraft, so your only carry-on is a personal item that fits under the seat (max dimensions: 13″ W × 11″ H × 17″ L). Anything larger must be checked.

Food and Beverages

Complimentary snacks, soft drinks, and alcoholic beverages (beer, wine, cocktails) are served on every flight.

Wi-Fi

Free Starlink-powered high-speed internet is available on all Embraer aircraft. JSX was the global launch customer for Starlink aviation connectivity and has offered it free since May 2023. The ATR fleet is expected to receive Starlink by spring 2026.

Pets

Small pets in approved under-seat carriers are welcome for $100 per flight segment. JSX also allows medium-to-large dogs (under 79 lbs) if you purchase an adjoining seat — a relatively unusual policy. A maximum of five pets per flight applies.
💡

Dog-Friendly Flying

Unlike most commercial airlines, JSX lets medium-to-large dogs (under 79 lbs) fly in-cabin by purchasing an adjoining seat. Add your pet at booking — only five pets are allowed per flight.

JSX Fare Classes: Hop On vs. All In

Hop On — The standard fare. Includes two checked bags, complimentary food and drinks, Wi-Fi, and lounge access. Seat selection is available for an additional fee. Change and cancellation policies are more restrictive.
All In — The flexible fare. Includes everything in Hop On plus a third checked bag, complimentary seat selection, and more generous change and cancellation terms.
Pricing varies significantly by route, timing, and demand. One-way fares can start as low as $199 on off-peak routes, but popular routes at peak times can run $500–$700+ one-way. Round-trip pricing on longer routes like Westchester to Miami can approach $1,800 or more.

Club JSX: The Loyalty Program

In July 2025, JSX launched its first proprietary loyalty program: Club JSX. It's free to join and operates on a simple cash-back model.

How It Works

Members earn 5% back in "Rewards" on their base fare, seat assignment fees, and pet fees when booking directly through JSX. Rewards function as credits toward future flights and can cover up to 100% of a base fare.

Key Features

  • Family Pooling — Up to five people can pool their Rewards balances
  • Birthday Bonus — Up to double Rewards on flights during your birthday month
  • Referral Bonus — Refer a first-time JSX customer and receive a $100 flight voucher
  • Personalized Offers — Bonus accruals tailored to individual travel habits
💡

Important: Rewards Expiry

Club JSX Rewards expire 12 months after they're earned. They can only be earned and redeemed on flights booked directly through JSX — not through JetBlue, United, or third-party agencies.

Partner Loyalty Programs

In addition to Club JSX, passengers can choose to earn JetBlue TrueBlue points or United MileagePlus miles on JSX flights instead. You'll need to decide which program to credit at booking — you can't earn in multiple programs on the same flight.

How JSX Compares to Commercial Airlines

The honest truth: JSX typically costs more than a basic economy fare on a commercial airline. But the comparison isn't really apples-to-apples.
Time savings. The 20-minute check-in alone can save an hour or more. Add planeside bag retrieval and the absence of taxi, gate, and boarding delays, and a JSX trip can save over two hours per direction.
What's included. A JSX base fare includes checked bags, drinks, snacks, cocktails, Wi-Fi, and lounge access. Achieving a comparable package on a commercial airline typically requires a first-class or business-class ticket.
Comfort. 30 passengers, no middle seats, first-class legroom, and a quiet private terminal. The stress level is categorically different.
The trade-off. JSX's route network is limited compared to major carriers, and the 30-seat capacity means flights can sell out quickly. There's no interlining or through-ticketing, so connections require separate bookings and transfers between terminals.
For frequent short-haul travelers who value their time and want a calmer experience, JSX often becomes a strong preference once they've tried it. For budget-conscious travelers or those flying routes JSX doesn't serve, commercial airlines remain the practical choice.

Other Semi-Private Airlines Worth Knowing About

JSX isn't the only option in the growing semi-private air travel space. If JSX doesn't serve your route, or if you're comparing options, here are some alternatives worth exploring.

Surf Air

A membership-based airline primarily serving California. Offers unlimited flights for a monthly fee. Best for very frequent flyers on specific West Coast corridors.

Aero

Operates semi-private and fully-private flights between select U.S. cities and resort destinations like Aspen, Sun Valley, and Los Cabos. First-class-only seating on 16-seat shared flights.

BLADE

Specializes in helicopter, seaplane, and semi-private jet operations, primarily connecting city centers in the Northeast U.S. with destinations like the Hamptons, Nantucket, and South Florida.

Tradewind Aviation

Serves destinations in the Northeast and Caribbean with small Pilatus turboprop and Cessna Citation jet aircraft.

XO (Vista Global)

Offers both shared semi-private flights and full aircraft charter options through one of the largest fleet networks in the industry. More expensive but with broader geographic reach.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly is JSX? Is it a real airline?
JSX is a public charter air carrier operating under FAA Part 135 rules. It is not a Part 121 airline like Delta or United, but it operates scheduled flights with its own fleet, crew, and terminals. For passengers, the functional experience is similar to a commercial airline — you buy a ticket, show up at a terminal, and board a scheduled flight — but with a much more streamlined and premium ground experience.
How early do I need to arrive for a JSX flight?
JSX recommends arriving 20 minutes before departure for domestic flights and 45 minutes for international flights. There are no separate TSA lines — JSX handles its own security screening at the private terminal.
Does JSX have overhead bins?
No. JSX aircraft do not have overhead bins. Your only carry-on is a personal item that fits under the seat in front of you (max 13″ × 11″ × 17″). All other bags must be checked. The good news: two checked bags (up to 50 lbs each) are included free with every ticket.
Can I bring my dog on a JSX flight?
Yes. Small pets in approved carriers can travel under the seat for $100 per flight segment. Medium-to-large dogs under 79 lbs can also fly if you purchase an adjoining seat. A maximum of five pets per flight applies, so add your pet at the time of booking or contact JSX customer support.
Does JSX have Wi-Fi?
Yes. Free Starlink high-speed Wi-Fi is available on all Embraer aircraft. The newer ATR turboprops are expected to receive Starlink by spring 2026.
How do I earn points or miles on JSX?
You have three options: Club JSX (5% back as future flight credit), JetBlue TrueBlue points, or United MileagePlus miles. You must choose one program per booking — you cannot earn in multiple programs on the same flight. Club JSX Rewards can only be earned on flights booked directly through JSX.
Does JSX fly internationally?
JSX offers limited international service. Currently, the only international destination is Cabo San Lucas (CSL) in Baja California Sur, Mexico, with flights from select U.S. airports.
What aircraft does JSX fly?
JSX operates a mixed fleet of Embraer ERJ-135 and ERJ-145 regional jets (approximately 51 aircraft) and ATR 42-600 turboprops (up to four in service as of early 2026). All aircraft are configured with 30 premium seats.
Is JSX safe?
JSX operates under FAA oversight and Part 135 charter regulations. The company states that its security screening exceeds TSA requirements, and its aircraft are maintained to FAA standards. JSX has faced regulatory scrutiny from larger airlines, but the FAA has continued to authorize its operations.
Can I use JSX for connecting flights to other airlines?
No. JSX does not interline or through-ticket with any other airline. If you need to connect from a JSX flight to a commercial carrier, you'll need separate bookings and should allow time to transfer between the private JSX terminal and the commercial terminal.
What is JSX's cancellation policy?
Cancellation and change policies vary by fare class. "Hop On" fares have more restrictive terms, while "All In" fares offer greater flexibility. Check the specific fare rules at the time of booking for details.
How much do JSX flights cost?
Pricing varies by route, timing, and demand. One-way fares start as low as $199 on select routes but can exceed $600 on popular corridors at peak times. JSX fares include amenities that commercial airlines charge extra for (checked bags, drinks, Wi-Fi), so the total cost comparison is closer than the sticker price suggests.
Are there any new JSX routes coming in 2026?
JSX expanded to Santa Monica Airport in late 2025 with ATR turboprop service to Las Vegas and Scottsdale. Summer 2026 seasonal routes are expected to include Santa Fe and Monterey. The ATR turboprops can potentially open many new airports, though JSX has not yet announced additional ATR destinations beyond the current evaluation phase.

I have nothing but praise for Fly fairly. My flight to Frank further for 13th March was cancelled by the airline due to the pilots strike. So they(airline) automatically booked me another flight for the next day. Unfortunately that didn't tally with my plans with my host so I had to ask fairly for a refund & cancellation. Hours later my host informed me they have organised some to wait for me from the airport and drive me to the venue. So I tried to reinstate my flight back by asking fly fairly to cancel the cancellation😁 Unfortunately I was informed that once a cancellation has been raised it cannot be reverted. I was so sad but refused to tell my hosts I had not succeeded till maybe Friday. Now I just woke up this morning 12/3/26 and ny spirit said check your messages. Voila!!! It was there. A message from Margot informing me that the flight can be recovered if only I could confirm it. I thought I was dreaming, I couldn't believe it. Upon confirming Margot quickly confirmed my booking. Now I can comfortably inform my sister who was so sad I was not going for wedding that I will be there. This means so much to me. It's the efficiency from fly fairly, Margot took time to go over the messages and was able to check the airline and saw that my cancellation had not been activated and flight for 14/3 is still confirmed. That effort means so much to me. I am so impressed by the care of FlyFairly and Margot. I highly recommend everyone to use Fly Fairly. It was my first time using them but definitely not the last. I have a trip coming up in April to Serbia, and will be contacting them soonest. Thank you Fly Fairly and thank you Margot. You are the best. I am a very satisfied customer. God bless you all. You habe made my day.

My flights from UAE to USA were rescheduled by Emirates due to the war and there was a delay in the reissue. This caused anxiety as I was offered a government refugee flight in the same time frame. The team was very professional and quick to respond. Jade, in particular was very helpful in elevating my situation to an urgent status. Most importantly she demonstrated kindness and empathy in very difficult circumstances. Their customer service is stellar in all aspects.

Insanely easy process and super easy to navigate website. Will definitely be using fly fairly again. I did come across a minor hiccup with my booking not being able to be accessed through the airlines website but this was all very quickly resolved within around 30 mins by using the websites online chat function where Xanthe helped out amazingly whilst being polite and professional. Definitely a great asset to the company! This really makes or breaks returning customers and I’ve definitely been won over! Thanks!

The customer service team was incredibly supportive throughout the process. I had a minor name typo, and there was a fee associated with the name change. However, the support team advised me to contact the airline directly first to see if they could resolve the issue without incurring any fees. This approach proved successful.

Customer service has been incredibly helpful! I had a concern about my last name appearing without a space on my booking, and I wasn’t sure if that would cause issues during my travel. I later learned it’s actually a common thing and usually not a problem with airlines—but even so, the team took the time to reassure me. They confirmed that everything would be fine with customs and immigration, and their quick, friendly response really put my mind at ease. Thanks again for the excellent support!
