The Australian airline was originally a full-service carrier owned by Qantas, serving domestic and international routes from 1986 to 2006.
In 2002, Qantas also launched a separate low-cost international airline under the same name, but it ceased operations in 2006, with its services merged into Jetstar, Qantas' low-cost subsidiary.
Today, Qantas and Jetstar continue to serve domestic and international routes from Australia, but the Australian Airlines brand no longer exists.
